The dynamics of cognitive functions and indices of electroencephalography under the influence of transcranial direct current stimulation

The article presents the results of studies of 86 patients aged 45-65 years with cerebral encephalopathy during the correction of cognitive disorders under the influence of transcranial direct current stimulation. Electroencephalography (EEG) was performed using the program Brain Localization System, transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) using the "Polaris" apparatus (Russia). It was demonstrated that the use of cerebellar-corticocerebral TDCS is more effective in comparison with corticocerebral TDCS (significant difference in the dynamics of indices of dynamic and constructive praxis, spatial and auditory gnosis, a level of neuroticism of patients). It was revealed that the improvement of cognitive function under the influence of transcranial direct current stimulation occurs simultaneously with increased delta EEG activity, a phenomenon which to date has no satisfactory physiological explanation. It was demonstrated that in the process of cerebellar-corticocerebral TDCS, the activation of neural systems occurs involving both brain stem reticular formations, as well as systems of the cortex – basal ganglia – thalamus – cortex.
